Slinger Wet-hire night shift – Backfilling & Stockpiling Works
- Location: Kwinana Freeway, Cockburn Central
- Client: BMD Group
- Budget: $50,000 approx.
- Date: January – March, 2021
- Services: Slinger
The Project
BMD Construction hired PMB to complete 3,000m3 of backfilling and stockpiling works on the Kwinana Freeway northbound widening project from Russell Rd to Roe Hwy. Working within the team tasked with the installation of new utilities within the railway corridor, PMB supplied the Slinger and a trained operator for the duration of the project, completing all works during night shift.
The Challenge
Access was very challenging for this project, with permanent traffic barriers preventing easy movement of plant and materials around the job site. These challenges were especially pronounced with the movement of fill sand and spoil that was excavated during trenching activities. As much as 3,000m3 of spoil was excavated during these works, posing a logistical nightmare for the project management team.
The PMB Solution
Using PMB’s Slinger was the obvious solution for this project. Loaded by the excavator that was digging the trench, the Slinger replaced multiple tipper trucks and at least one excavator, streamlining the entire construction process and significantly speeding up the installation of backfill material.
Using a single Operator also significantly improved outcomes on this project. Our Operator became an expert in what was required to complete the job, delivering the best possible outcome for our client.
